Linsanity vs. Carmelawesome

Are you into Linsanity?

Nice Read.

Carmelo Anthony rejoined the New York Knicks, a team that has re-emerged as a power thanks to the antics of the previously unheralded point guard Jeremy Lin. Since becoming the Knicks’ starting point guard, the Harvard grad and D league castoff has ignited an international media frenzy, while getting a championship-starved fan base to drool from the mouth at what’s fast becoming one of the greatest underdog stories in the history of professional sports. But with the notoriously selfish Anthony eager to make an impact, many have wondered if New York’s old superstar can coexist with its new one. Despite last night’s loss to the Nets, the jury is still out.

We think it must have been kind of awkward for Anthony to return to Linsanity, so here we imagine what their conversation would have been like before yesterday's game.
Carmelo: Yo, Jeremy. Where is everyone?

Jeremy: We’re early, I guess. How’s the groin?

Carmelo: Feeling good man, feeling good. Today’s definitely the day. I’m excited to get out there.

Jeremy: That’s good news, Melo.

Carmelo: Call me Carmelo.

Jeremy: That’s good news, Carmelo. We’re excited to have you back.

Carmelo: Listen, man, I wanted to personally thank you for carrying the load while I was out. You did good. The city loves you.

Jeremy: Yeah, these last couple weeks have been pretty crazy. Derek Jeter called me last night.

Carmelo: Derek called you?

Jeremy: Yeah, just to welcome me to the brotherhood, and to remind me that us winners have to look out for each other in this town.

Carmelo: Oh, yeah, of course [laughs nervously]. He called me too when I was traded here last year.

Jeremy: Yeah, and that welcome dinner at Mayor Bloomberg’s house! How intense was that?

Carmelo: You got invited to mayor -- I mean, yeah! So intense!

Jeremy: Anyways, I’m just trying to stay focused on winning, despite how Linsane everything’s been.

Carmelo: Things have definitely been Linsane around here. But Melo’s back now, so things can go back to being Carmelawesome.

Jeremy: I’ve never heard that one before, Carmelo. Did you just invent that yourself?

Carmelo: No, I didn’t just invent that, it existed before. You just never heard about it, I guess. With all due respect, Jeremy, this is my team. In case you forgot, I’m a five-time all star, a gold medal winner, and I’m married to the La La Vasquez, of La La’s Full Court Wedding fame.

Jeremy: With all due respect, Carmelo, the Knicks were losing with you in the lineup, and have been Linning ever since I took the reins. I don’t see why we can’t coexist.

Carmelo: ...co...exist?

Jeremy: Yeah! Let our strengths complement one another. I’m a passer, and you’re a scorer. So if you get open, I can pass you the ball and you can shoot it. You know, like in a basketball game.

Carmelo: I don’t have to pass back?

Jeremy: Not if you have an open shot!

Carmelo: So I can still be a star?

Jeremy: We can both be stars.

Carmelo: What about Amare?

Jeremy: He can be our Chris Bosh.

Carmelo: Can I come to Mayor Bloomberg’s house with you sometime?

Jeremy: Of course you can, Carmelo. Of course you can.

Carmelo: Hey, Jeremy -- call me ‘Melo.

5 Things You Didn’t Know about Manny Pacquiao

I'd like to spoil the moment ngayong talk of the nation si Manny Pacquiao. Here's my nth post about the people's champ.

Just because boxer Manny Pacquiao isn’t a household name in North America doesn’t mean that he’s not popular elsewhere. As a matter of fact, Manny Pacquiao is one of the most popular people in the world.

He’s virtually a god in the Philippines, as he appears everywhere in Filipino pop culture, from the music scene to TV and movies. Manny Pacquiao is also known well in Mexico, as he’s left a graveyard of Mexican boxing greats in his trail -- enough to earn him the nickname “The Mexicutioner.”

As he continues to destroy everything in his path, it is beginning to look like Manny Pacquiao may not only be one of the best of his generation; he may in fact be one of the best of all time.

When Pacquiao knocked out Ricky Hatton in the second round of their fight on Saturday, May 2, he became the first boxer ever to win a lineal title in four lineal divisions.

Here is a list of five things you didn’t know about Manny Pacquiao:

1- Manny Pacquiao earned less than $1 for his first fight

We’ve all heard stories about someone who goes from rags to riches, but Manny Pacquiao’s version is extreme.

Pacquiao’s family has spent a lot of time in poverty, and he did what he could to help early on in his life. Before he hit his teens, Pacquiao was selling doughnuts in the streets and he had his first fight when he was 12. After winning, Manny Pacquiao earned less than $1, which he immediately gave to his mother to buy rice.

As Manny Pacquiao gets set for his bout with Ricky Hatton, he is now the highest-paid prizefighter in the sport of boxing and he’s going to earn at least $12 million in guaranteed money. That could escalate even more based on the pay-per-view rake.

2- When Manny Pacquiao fights, the crime rate goes down

Wondering how popular Manny Pacquiao is? When he fights, the entire country watches -- literally.

The police in Manila say that crimes drop drastically during Manny Pacquiao’s fights, which means that even criminals stop their dirty work to watch.

3- Manny Pacquiao owns a lottery outlet

Manny Pacquiao owns a lottery outlet for the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, but this isn’t just a regular lottery outlet. The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office is actually the charity arm of the government, which means that a lot of money that is made from the lottery is put to good use.

The money is often reinvested back into public services, such as health care and welfare, and it wouldn’t be as successful without Manny Pacquiao’s name attached to it

4- Manny Pacquiao is the only Filipino in Time 100

The Time 100 is an annual list of the most influential people in the world compiled by Time magazine. In 2009, Manny Pacquiao made the list.

To be included on this sort of list is quite the honor, no doubt, as only a handful of the world’s best thinkers, leaders and innovators make the cut

5- Manny Pacquiao owns a basketball team

While Manny Pacquiao’s job is as a professional boxer, one of his favorite pastimes is to play basketball. As a matter of fact, his original dream was to be a professional basketball player.

Instead, the 5' 6.5" Manny Pacquiao settled for a legendary boxing career and now owns a basketball team on the side.

Pacquiao is the owner of the PacMan Gensan team of the Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association, which is based out of his hometown in General Santos City. They are now known as the MP Warriors of Gensan.

Now that’s a rags-to-riches story.

Hoodie

NBA superstar KOBE BRYANT was in the country for the third time as part of his city Nike tour. Na-missed ko na nman ang kanyang pagbisita. Mukhang nawiwili si Kobe sa Pilipinas.

BTW, I got this Kobe's jacket hoodie. Buti na lang sale sa mall. That I think was released last year pa.

Kobe Bryant's Grinch-styled shoes

This is great! I want to have one also.

Kobe Bryant's latest choice in life? Via Trey Kerby, from The Basketball Jones? It's an Ecto Cooler-styled sneaker based around the brilliance of Theodor Geisel's "How The Grinch Stole Christmas!" fable. And he'll wear it on Christmas, in a game against the Miami Heat (natch) for all of us to behold.

A sure win for the team? Good luck man!

The Cigar Guy!

A photo of this man is getting so much attention around the globe ...

A photographer for the Daily Mail got an amazing picture at the Ryder Cup of Tiger Woods flubbing a shot headed directly at the camera. He didn't duck and Tiger's golf ball actually hit the lens — but not before the image was captured midflight. The photo has been seen around the world.

But that's not what's captivating the Web. It's the amazingly unique look of the fan standing just to the right of Tiger's shoulder, chomping on a cigar, wearing a turban-like brown hat, and sporting a thick, Groucho Marx–style mustache. The spectator just steals the show.

And just like that, the "Cigar Guy" Internet star was born. The mystery man has been inserted in pictures and shared around the Web. Yahoo! searches for the mustachioed golf fan twirled up 675% in just one day. Searches were also popular on "Cigar Guy," "cigar guy ryder cup," and "cigar guy tiger woods."

New Sport for Tiger Woods?

It is said that Golf superstar Tiger Woods has begun the process of building a state-of-the-art tennis court and tennis pavilion on his massive estate in Jupiter Island, Florida.

Could that be a shift of career? (tennis seemed to be a favorite hobby of Tiger - tmz.com)
